Origin
More that 2000 years ago, a Messiah was born to the Virgin Mary on the 25th of December, this baby was named Jesus Christ, the Holy Son of God. Jesus taught the Jews about God and how to love one another. Many of these teachings of Jesus are recorded in the book The Bible. Christianity was born.

Founder
The founder of Christianity (apart from god) is also Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent down to Earth to cleanse the world of our sins. Jesus was crucified on a wooden cross at the age of 33 and in doing so, the world was free of our sins.

Major Historical Figures
Jesus is the Christians major historical figure.
Christians also have a strong belief in God. God is believed to be the father of Jesus Christ the Savior.

Major Sacred Writings
The most sacred writing in Christianity is The Bible, which records the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Bible is divided up into separate books which tells the different stories and events which happened during the time when Jesus walked with us.


Key Beliefs
A Christians key belief is in one God and one God only. There is no other god but one, who watches over us and then welcomes us into the after life. Christians believe that afterlife is in Heaven, but you can only go there if you don't sin (turn against the ten commandments).


Distinctive Practices
Christians have many practices, but one of the first that a new born Christian experiences is baptism. Baptism is a way for a child to be welcomed into the religion of Christianity. After the child or person is baptised they are officially part of the family of God.


Major Celebrations
On the 25th of December each year, Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God, with the event Christmas. Christmas is a time of joy in which gifts are given and received.
Christians also celebrate Easter, the time when Jesus was crucified on the cross, and was then resurrected for the dead for three days.
